West Indian Bangle

The West Indian bangle has one of the most extraordinary histories in all of Caribbean jewelry. Its earliest ancestor, the West African manilla, was once used as currency — and later, heartbreakingly, as a symbol of bondage. But the people of the Caribbean transformed it entirely. Through generations of resilience, creativity, and cultural pride, the bangle became something else altogether: a celebration. A symbol of prosperity, joy, and freedom. A piece so deeply woven into Caribbean life that it's still traditionally given to newborn babies as a first piece of jewelry, kept as a family heirloom long after it's outgrown.

Today it is worn as a celebration of who we are and where we come from.

Each ib designs West Indian Bangle is hand wrought by local artisans right here in St. Croix — created to the highest standards, subtly unique, and deeply authentic. Traditionally worn in stacks, sold individually so you can build yours your way. Read the full history on our Feel Good Blog.
